Southampton pubs update January 2012

I was sad to hear that the Talking Heads in Portswood was closing for good. However, that was fortunately only for a short while and has now been refurbished and once again, has live music every night under new management.

In other news, the Chilli White nightclub (formerly Bliss Clubrooms, Chicago Rock and various other brands), which has been open for five months, has closed suddenly, following a spate of drunk and disorderly incidents outside the venue. It has been ‘debranded’ by the owner and is now empty.

Finally, another historic Southampton pub has bit the dust. The Oddfellows Arms (below), st Mary Street (most recently Zeb Bar and then a furniture shop, featuring some notable Courage tiles has been demolished to make way for another very dull block of flats. No flowers please.

  1. Hi, i came across this page while searching for events in Southampton and would just like to say i’m glad that you have included The Talking Heads in your blog, however we are ow open again as a pub and have music on every night of the week! Please would you be able to change the first paragraph of the text to save confusion for people that enter your site, and also for the benefit of us.

    Thank you very much,

Will Wilks (The new Bar Manager)

    1. Hi Will,

Thanks for your message, I’m glad the Talking Heads is open again and offering live music, I will come and have a drink or several when I get chance, I need to update my pubs blog anyway. I have amended the paragraph you mentioned saying that Talking Heads is open again. As I say, there’s a lot of bad news about local pubs closing for good so it’s nice to hear a success story.

      Regards,

      Gary
