West Block 3rd floor

There was no 3rd floor of West Block for most of the length of the building; this is because much of the second floor was double-height. The only parts of building with a third floor were a small cupboard off M core stairs and a large storage area by F core (W301); this was formerly the Manuscript Store and much of the contents have been sent to the National Archives.

W301 – Manuscript Store

W301 Manuscript Store, always a bit of a backwater within OS, this is where most paper, film documentation could be found. In later years this store had limited opening hours and by the turn of the century was largely surplus to requirements.
