W004

Goods Inwards and home to the Messengers function (internal post) until recently. Goods Inwards recieved the post from Royal Mail and items from couriers – ranging from numerous large pallets to individual small parcels. The area was equipped with hand pump trucks, an electrical powered pallet mover and a gas-powered forklift truck for external use around the site. Goods Inwards also managed the supply of stationery to staff around the building and provide a letter folding and enveloping system.

W005 (Post Room)

This room was an annexe off W004 and in 2010 contained the Post Room and Messengers area (essentially pigeonholes for post going around the building and externally). The area shrunk significantly in recent years due to the reduction in staff numbers and more significantly, the use of email replacing paper memos. Outgoing mail was franked and the area also used printed postage impression stickers for large mailings (such as Free Maps for Schools). The area also had the ability to X-ray suspicious incoming packages.

W006

A rest room/kitchen area for Goods Inwards and Post Room staff.

W007 (Warehouse and Despatch)

Warehouse and Despatch fulfilled orders for maps from customers and also offered a parcel despatch service to staff.
