Print Finishing

Print Finishing, originally known as ‘Map Mounting, is where flat sheets of printed maps were made into finished products, through cutting, folding, casing etc.

This was originally located in a double-height purpose-built facility on the ground floor of West Block, the last part in the production process before maps were stored in the adjacent warehouse.

This operation and its equipment was moved to the back of the Print Floor at some point in the 1980s/90s.

Historic print finishing

It appears that OSO Chessington was used for this activity in the 1940s/50s/60s. I have seen no mention of this at OSO Crabwood or London Road but it must have been done somewhere.
