The roof of West Block was quite varied. There were flat sections but also extensive runs of glazed ‘northlight’ roofing. The main section of this was between G and M core but there was also a section above W407. The latter had been covered up by the huge air conditioning ducts installed in the 1970s. The glazed sections above W415 and W416 allowed ample light to enter.
A metal shed was erected on the roof by F core/above W404 and this contained the air conditioning plant that fed the aforementioned ducts above W407.
