Facing SE across the Refrigeration Plant by G core, two of the three huge Carlyle centrifugal chillers can be seen here. These were located a floor below the lower ground floor level as the space needed to be double-height to fit them in. On the left of this view is the single height area, at LG floor level, that contains the pipes, valves and pumps between these chillers and the rest of the building. Behind (out of shot) is another single-height area where the electrical control gear for the chillers and pumps was located.
There was space for four chillers but as far as I know, there were only ever three. Two of them were rebuilt in the 1990s but the third one was thought to be original.
