E lift motor-generator set. This device is an AC electric motor that spins a generator that produces DC electricity that is then fed to the lift motor itself. DC was preferred for the lift motor as it was easier to control but this type of machine is obsolete as there are far more efficient ways of doing this task now, such as solid state rectifiers.
